How Much Per Year for RTW?

<

p>There’s an interesting thread over at Thorntree, asking RTW’ers how much they spend in a year’s travel around the world. This is great info for anyone planning extended travel, because they’re working with cold hard numbers. Just to give you an idea, here’s a few quotes from the thread.Veromundo’s Budget:

RTW - $12,000 - $15,000 per year
Nepal - $ 500/month, $16/day
India - $ 700/month, $23/day
Spain/Italy $1800/month $60/day
Argentina/BR $900/month $30/day

Yag’s Budget:

Asia: $37.50 /day
Central America: $37.50 /day
South America: $44.60 /day
Middle East: $31.50 /day
Australia/NZ: $69.30 /day
Europe: $75.60 / day

Not bad. There’s also a couple who’ve been traveling together for almost 2 years now who spend about $32 each average per day. Your lifestyle is the most important part in budgeting for long term travel.

I’ve also met a Canadian (hey Paul) who traveled the US for 6 months on less than four hundred dollars. But reallly, I think $32 is a good figure to start with to be 100% independant and capable of traveling where ever you feel. If only you could make $32 a day from anywhere in the world…

I spent around $10,000 for 11 months of travel including tickets. That’s about $25 bucks a day and $1500 for plane/transportation + travel. I lived in Argentina for 5.5 months with a side trip to Peru & Uruguay and then Africa for 5.5 months.
